Trying to save an endangered species doesn’t normally target one for extinction. But homicide detective Hannah Sampson has her doubts when Elyse—her close friend and neighbor—dies from a fiery boat explosion. The local police believe she committed suicide. But Hannah knows that Elyse—a staunch environmentalist—was too dedicated to preserving life to take her own. But if Hannah is going to hook her friend’s killer, she’s going to have to chart her own course—and make sure that her deep sea forensics don’t get her in way over her head…
EDITORIAL REVIEWS
"Fast-paced thriller…that explodes onto the opening page. By the end of the first chapter, Brandt’s heroine is breathless and the reader is hooked."
--Diver Magazine
“A plunge into intrigue. Brandt is in her element as underwater sleuth.”
--The Denver Post
“White-hot writing, a charismatic heroine and crackling tension flawlessly merge in Brandt’s
latest Underwater Investigation. Plus, her crisp depiction of the British Virgin Islands lends lush atmosphere to this suspenseful story. Police diver Hannah Sampson is smart, skillful and independent. But her independence makes things difficult when her best friend is seriously injured in a boat fire. Hannah’s the only person on the island who believes the fire was a murder attempt. Clues lead to dead ends, but Hannah knows she’s onto something. Threats against her own life reinforce her gut instinct and push her toward a risky resolution.
This richly plotted mystery is as satisfying as finding buried treasure.”
—Romantic Times Magazine
“Beginning in Swimming With the Dead, and then Dark Water Dive, Brandt introduced
Hannah Sampson, an independent and spunky heroine who, not coincidentally, hails from
Colorado. Her special talents, aside from a quick, sometimes raw wit and a bulldog-like curiosity, include diving. While the storylines in Brandt’s books are compelling and the plots, filled with murder, pending murder, and intrigue, keep the pages turning, it’s really her special gift for atmosphere that has kept me reading. Her latest book, Dangerous Depths, is no exception. Hannah Sampson, emerges as a fully developed and complex character. And, as much as I like Sampson, I enjoy the descriptions of the British Virgin Islands even more, particularly the detailed evocations of diving that can almost make you taste the regulator in your mouth.”

I'm a huge fan of this series. The setting stays in the islands. Hannah manages to be both hot-headed and steadfast at the same time. The plot doesn't repeat itself from book to book, while the elements we love--the characters, the setting, the interactions--remain. The characters have grown remarkably from story to story, which really helps bring Hannah and the others to life. She isn't an unchanging rock that things happen to; part of the plot is driven by her own decisions and reactions. All the books in this series are very well written. I'm a picky reader who hates plot holes. I hate when I read something that I know doesn't work that way, and I wonder why the author didn't think it was worth five minutes to research how it did work. For three books, Brandt has never thrown me out of the story with a gap! Very highly recommended for readers who love suspense and need books that keep you engaged the whole time.

Dangerous Depths An Underwater Investigation Book 3 edition by Kathy Brandt Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
A great combination of mystery and scuba diving and environmental awareness. I wish this series would never end!
I like this series. It's exciting, it's not bogged down with details or too many characters. Just right for me. The only thing I don't like about the series are the sex scenes that I don't care for. I would give it 5 stars if not for that.
This novel isn't up to par with all the others by this author. Not well written. I got about a third of the way through it before I just gave up. Not worth the ime. It reads like a book written for a teenage market.
This book contained very indepth information about the British Virgin Islands (BVI)including not only information about the island groupings and their names but also detailed descriptions of the underwater world around the islands; the coral varieties, fish, sharks, etc. The novel easily kept you enthralled with mystery, intrigue, suspense, with a bit of romance thrown in on the side.
Before purchasig this item it would be helpful to know this book is the 3rd book of a four book series. You could read it as a stand alone, but trust me, you'll enjoy it so much more if you read the previous two books first. There is also a fourth book in the series which end leaves the reader in suspense, hoping there will be subsequent books in this series.
I gobble up detective novels the way some people eat chocolate. I loved the series, and wish there were more. Hannah Sampson is a likable, capable, and very human sort of person struggling to find her way in a fascinating setting the British Virgin Islands of the Caribbean.
The pace is fast, fun, and intriguing. The author's knowledge of the islands and their people shines through, and she captures the language cadence of the islanders beautifully.
If you're looking to vary your same-same urban detective novel with some exotic settings and breath-stopping (pun intended) underwater crime scenes, then try these Kathy Brandt novels.
Good reading for a general audience. Especially appealing to detective story buffs who dive, snorkel or are interested in the Caribbean.
This was the second book by Kathy Brandt I have read. The first one I read was the next sequentially after this one. While I liked the first one I read more than Dangerous Depths, this was a good read. The underwater descriptions are enjoyable to read, the plot was developed well, and I appreciated the information about protecting reefs and turtles, which seemed accurate. My only real issue of the book is that bad guys doing bad things to develop land deals tends to be trite.
I love this series! Kathy Brandt is an amazing author and brings a lot of depth and realism to all of her charaters.
